Stan’s team face Sundays Well in Sundays Well for a semi final by March 11th. Therese’s team will travel to Monaleen in Limerick, match to be played by March 4th.

Final Round Up of Winter League Matches

The club’s Grade 2, Grade 4, and Grade 6 teams played the last rounds of Winter League matches last weekend.
Stan’s Grade 2 team was at home to Rushbrooke on Sunday morning and despite good games lost the fixture 1/4.
Jenny’s Grade 4 team was at home to a very strong Douglas team on Thursday night and unfortunately was beaten 0/4.
Ivan’s Grade 6 team was away to Whitechurch and lost 1/3.
The Grade 5s and Grade 3s will play their last matches next weekend. The 5s play Douglas at home and the 3s will be away to Lower Aghada.
It’s now a case of counting points gathered all season to decide which teams go through to knockout. It was a very good season with excellent tennis played at all grades. The club fielded six teams in all, some achievement for such a small club.

Winter League Update

The Grade 3 and Grade 5 teams played Winter League matches last weekend. Paraic’s Grade 3 team (Paraic, Brian, Tish, Tara) was at home to Sundays Well, and despite fighting a hard battle, had a 5/0 loss. The score didn’t reflect the tennis as several of the games were very close. Hard luck
John’s Grade 5 team (John, Ger, Susan, Julie) travelled to Canon Hayes Club in Co. Tipperary. They had a very good day out and came home with a 3/1 victory. They were unlucky not to bag the fourth point. Well done!

Turkey Tournament

We got lucky with the weather and had a lovely night last Wed for this year’s Turkey Tournament.  15 people competed in an “American” format tournament with turkey vouchers going to the top three -Freda, Lisa and Maggie. The final voucher was won by Ger Mehigan in an open raffle. Much Thanks goes to Roger for the generous sponsorship again this year. We all enjoyed the tennis (and the mulled wine!).

The finals of the Hurley Cup were held on Friday night.
Semifinal line up was:
Paraic and Liz v Niall and Brenda

The finalists were Paraic and Liz and Sean and Jeanine. It was shaping up to be a tight match until Jeanine had to retire due to injury. Congratulations to Liz and Paraic. You’ll be the bee’s knees in your designer shades!
Many thanks to Barry Hurley for sponsoring the event so generously again this year.
A good crowd turned out to watch and Tish provided a very tasty Green Thai Curry. Desserts were by Maggie, Eileen and Catherine. All in all it was a very enjoyable evening. Hard luck Sean and Jeanine and may you make a speedy recovery Jeanine.
